Gollin arrives just seconds from top podium position at Zolder

22-Oct-2008

Untitled document Fabrizio Gollin arrives only 5 seconds from top podium position after a very tough, gripping race in the second-last event of the FIA GT 2008 championship. This is how the Phoenix Racing driver comments his second placing: "I’m happy with the result, but for the moment I’d rather not think of how I lost those few seconds that prevented me from arriving first".He then further comments the event: "During the practice sessions, I noticed that the bolts that fix the kerbs jutted out a lot. In point of fact, some drivers who went off track or just made contact ended up with cut tyres". "It was a constant hazard situation where a just small blunder or mere contact could have forced you back to the pits or even to retire from the race. Luckily, I managed to overcome the problem".Gollin had to face another unexpected hazard when the Corvette suddenly began to skid on the asphalt: the situation was such that to keep on the track he no other option but to slow down. Later on he found out that the GT2 car racing in front of him was leaking fuel. "I became seriously worried when my car became hard to control and began to skid because I couldn’t make out why it behaved that way, and I was forced to slow down". Fabrizio goes on: "Unlike oil – which you can see on the asphalt – fuel is practically invisible. Had I known what the problem was about I could have overtaken the GT2 car and battled it out for the first place. Instead, when I found out it was too late and the only thing I could do was defend the second place ...".The next and last event of the FIA GT Championship will be held at San Luis in Argentina on November 22, 2008. The race will be broadcast live on Nuvolari, Sky Channel 218.
